About Moses Automotive
Moses Automotive began as a Sohio gasoline/service station in 1969. It was owned and operated by Jim Moses. The station was located at Lewis Avenue and Eleanor Avenue in West Toledo. The current location at 629 Sylvania, also in West Toledo, was opened in 1975 also by Jim Moses and was operated along with the Sohio station until 1977 when the station was closed.
Both locations were truly a family affair, with Jim's wife Cathy handling all of the bookwork and two of their sons, Jeff and Mark, working as pump attendants as early as 1972. As the 70's began to fade and the 80's were on the horizon, changes started to take place at Moses Automotive. Jeff, the oldest brother, was looking outside the automotive field for a career and Mark was graduating from Whitmer High School's Vocational Automotive Technology Program and enjoying his home built hot rods.
Mark had truly found his destiny with automobiles and recognized that changes were starting to happen in the industry. These changes would shape the future of not only Moses Automotive, but the entire automobile industry. The changes included things like electronic ignition, catalytic converters and even electronic fuel injection. A lot of these changes were driven by new regulations that were mandated by the government. They dictated new vehicles were to be produced with emission control systems that would help cut down on tailpipe emissions. As early as 1979, General Motors was installing computers on some vehicles to monitor and control the emission systems' effectiveness.
In the fall of 1977, shortly after high school graduation, Mark saw the need to prepare for the future and enrolled in a two year technical school in Indianapolis, Indiana. The school, Lincoln Technical Institute, had a reputation for being very progressive and also was known to set high standards for the students. With the solid foundation that Mark's high school program had provided and the advantage of working in the field for many years with his father, Mark was able to complete the two year program in one year.
After graduation, Mark had the opportunity to meet the most important carr in his life, Kathy Carr. She thought all she needed was a heater core; Mark thought all he needed was to win her heart. They were married in March of 1980.
In 1980 things were also changing at Moses Automotive. Jim Moses had decided that he wanted to try his hand in another industry, namely custom home building. Mark's head start was starting to pay off. On June 1st of 1981, Mark became the owner of Moses Automotive at the ripe old age of 22. With the guidance of Jim and Cathy and the unwavering support of Mark's bride, Kathy, the rest is, as they say, history. Moses Automotive was off to help change the way vehicles were repaired and maintained by setting new standards in customer service, changing the way people thought of automobile technicians and even the way technicians thought of themselves.
Now, as we begin the next century, Moses Automotive is proud of what it has accomplished.
In 2005 we celebrated our 35th anniversary of providing the Toledo area with the highest quality automobile service in the country while maintaining our reputation for "World Class" customer service standards. We have set sail into uncharted waters and have proven things can and do get better.
